East Brady Man Injured in Sugar Creek Twp Crash

In Sugarcreek Township in western Armstrong County a 56 year old East Brady man was injured after he rolled his pickup truck along State Route 268 last Friday morning about 7 am.  The Kittanning state police report say Matthew Smith was driving a 2000 full size Chevy Pickup Truck south on Route 268 when he lost traction on the snow and slush covered roadway causing the truck to slide to right.  Smith tried to regain control of his truck but was unable according to police.  The truck rotated to the right crossing the north bound lane when the front of the truck struck the eastern embankment causing it to continue rotating, now to the left, .  The rear end of the truck climbed the embankment rolling onto its roof and re-entering the highway in the southbound lane.  The truck came to a final stop facing east lying on its roof.  Sugarcreek Ambulance transported Smith to Armstrong County Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.  


Parker Woman Injured in Rollover, Charged w/DUI

A 24 year old Parker woman was injured when her small car rolled over following a crash Sunday morning at shortly before 6:15 a.m. in Armstrong County in West Franklin Township along Benjamin Franklin Highway a quarter mile west of township route 306.  The Kittanning state police say Brittany Boyer was driving west on U.S. Route 422 when for an unknown reason she went off the north side of the roadway, crashing into an embankment which then cause the car to overturn and come to a stop in the left lane against a concrete barrier.  The woman reported minor injuries at the scene and refused treatment from EMS.  Boyer was taken into custody for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol and was subsequently released after submitting to a chemical breath test.  


Ford City Man Jailed on Megan's Law Violation

A 57 year old Ford City man is accused of not complying with Megan's Law registration requirements.  The Kittanning state police report while conducting monthly Megan's Law compliance checks, Randy Adams was found to have provided bad information for his registration.  Police say an investigation also found Adams had not provided information as required.  He was arrested and charged with one count of failure to Comply with Registration of Sexual Offenders Requirements, two counts of Failure to Comply with Registration Requirements and one count of Unsworn Falsification to Authorities.  He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Gary Decomo and lodged in the Armstrong County Jail after failing to post $50,000 bond.  


Drunk Driver Had 44 Bags of Heroin in Armstrong Co Traffic Stop

The Kittanning State Police are not providing a lot of detail in a news release reporting a drunk driver in possession of 44 bags of suspected heroin and related paraphernalia.  The troopers report shortly before 6:30 pm Sunday night they pulled over a 33 year old Shelocta man, who remains unidentified at this point in South Buffalo Township, Armstrong County.  It is reported the man showed signs of impairment and that when police found the heroin.  The man consented to a blood draw and charges are pending lab results. 


Kittanning Overdose Death Investigated

The Kittanning state police report they are probing the overdose death of 26 year old Corey Booth of Kittanning.  He was reported found by members of a search party in a wooded area behind his home in North Buffalo Township in Armstrong County.  Police say the search party was organized by members of Booth's family after he was reported as a missing person to the state police.  All of this is reported to have occurred between 7 pm Wednesday December 7 and 12:30 pm Saturday February 18th.  There are no signs of foul play according to the state police who were assisted by members of the Armstrong County Coroner's Office and the Armstrong County District Attorney's Office.  


Kittanning PSP Investigate Death of W. Kittanning Man

A death investigation is underway in the case of 72 year old man found deceased at his Armstrong County home.  The Kittanning state police report they are investigating the natural death of Hayden Klingler who found deceased by relatives in his home in West Kittanning Borough.  Police say there are no signs of foul play.  Police say all of this happened between 4 pm Wednesday, February 15th and 12:30 pm Saturday afternoon February 19th.  The state police were assisted by the Armstrong County Coroners Office.  


W. Shamokin HS Anonymous Indecent Assault Complaint Unfounded

The Kittanning state police say the report indecent assault lodged anonymously against an Armstrong County teacher was determined to be untrue.  The troopers report they investigated with the Armstrong County Children and Youth Services, an anonymous complaint that a teacher at the West Shamokin High School in Cowanshannock Township had indecent contact with a 15 year old boy during school.  Police say the anonymous complaint was found to be untrue and no indecent contact occurred.  Police say the report is closed as unfounded.  The incident was said to have taken place on Monday February 13th at 12:15 pm.  


Armstrong DA Files Homicide-by-Vehicle Charge

You may remember about a month ago we reported to you a fatal one vehicle crash in Armstrong County that claimed the life a Pittsburgh riding as a passenger in the vehicle that crashed.  The Kittanning state police say  In that crash on January 7 on State Route 268 in Sugar Creek Township, John W. McCoy was killed as Mchael A. Barnett, also of Pittsburgh drove his vehicle in the left lane, went off the road and crashed into a tree.  Through an investigation, reconstruction and lab analysis, authorities determined Barnett was under the influence of Alcohol and Drugs at the time of the crash.

In a news release date Sunday this week, Armstrong County District Attorney Scott J. Andreassi announced charges filed in that fatal crash that took place near the Sugar Creek Township Elementary School.  Barnett is charged with Felony  Homicide by Vehicle While DUI, First Degree Misdemeanor Involuntary Manslaughter, Misdemeanor Driving Under the Influence and Possession of marijuana and four summary traffic violations. 

Andreassi says in the news release, "The homicide by Vehicle While DUI charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of three years incarceration.  Based on the evidence obtained by the Pennsylvania State Police, we will be seeking the mandatory sentence in this case.  The death of Mr. McCoy was a tragic accident caused by the actions of Barnett.  I want to commend the Pennsylvania State Police and particularly Trooper Thomas Karlo for a very thorough investigation."


Barnett is presently lodged in the Armstrong County Jail in Lieu of $35,000 bail.  He faces a  preliminary hearing Wednesday February 15th before Magisterial District Judge James H. O.  According to online court records Barnet is represented by a private attorney Justin John-Earl Ketchel of Pittsburgh.  


Likely Armstrong DUI Crash Kills One, Injures Driver

Alcohol was likely a factor in a fatal crash in Armstrong County late Saturday morning.  The Kittanning state police report while traveling north, a known driver, described only as 55 year old black non-Hispanic male of Pittsburgh was driving at a high rate of speed on State Route 268 in Sugarcreek Township, shortly after 11:02 am when his Lincoln MKZ left the roadway onto the snow covered  east berm.  Police say that 's when  he lost control and crashed into a tree with the left side of the vehicle.  It is reported the front seat passenger, an unidentified 53 year old non-Hispanic black male was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.  Police say they believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol and /or drugs.  Charges are pending lab results.  


Cowanshannock TwpD Man Alleged to Have 2 Rounds into House

An Armstrong County man whose house was shot at early New Year's Day is not pressing charges.  The Kittanning state police report a 61 year old Cowanshannock man was accused of recklessly firing a rifle in the direction of  the  residence of a 48 year old man, also of Cowanshannock, causing damage.  Police say the incident happened a moment or two after mid night along the 400 block of State Route 1033 in Cowanshannock Township.  During the course of the investigation, the troopers report they developed a suspect, but add the suspect will not be charged at the request of the victim.  The investigation and the case are considered closed.
