In East Fairfield Township, Crawford County, what was thought to be a crash scene in which someone had crashed or driven a car into a creek, turned out to be the recovery of a stolen vehicle. At shortly after 10:15 Tuesday morning, multiple troopers Meadville State Police station, the Cochranton Volunteer Fire Department, Meadville Emergency Medical Services, Route 19 Towing and initially the Crawford County Scuba Team responded to the report of a vehicle completely submerged in Little Sugar Creek at the intersection of Griffen and Shaffer Roads. The vehicle, a silver in color 2011 Chevrolet Impala bearing a registration plate (DLM8583), was successfully removed from the creek. Police say there was no indication anyone was harmed as a result of the incident. While investigating the incident, the troopers learned the car was reported by the owner, Gerald Q. Pierce of Erie, to have been stolen in the City of Erie. The incident is still under investigation.
