Venango, Crawford Unemployment Rates Improve

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry is out with its Workforce Information News Release otherwise detailing employment and unemployment numbers for statistical areas across the Commonwealth. 

In January, the latest month  for which statistics are available the Crawford County seasonally adjusted unemployment rate improved to 5.3 percent from 6 percent in December 2016 and 5.8 percent in November.  However the percentage of unemployed people in January 2016 stands at 4.8 percent. 

By comparison, January's unemployment numbers in surrounding counties look like this (all seasonally adjusted):  Erie 6.0 percent; Forest County 6.5 percent; Mercer County 5.8 percent; and Warren 4.8 percent.  Across Pennsylvania the January unemployment figure stands at 5.2 percent and nationally at 4.8 percent. 

In Crawford County Total Non-Farm Jobs-Not Seasonally Adjusted stands at 32,100, down 800 from December 2016 and ahead of January 2016 by one hundred. 

For Venango County, the January 2017 Seasonally Adjusted unemployment rate was 6.7 percent, down from 7.3 percent December 2016 and 7.0 percent in November, but still higher than the 5.9 percent of January 2016

January's seasonally adjusted  unemployment numbers for nearby counties look like this:  Clarion 5.6 percent and McKean County 6.3 percent. 

In Venango County Total Non-Farm Jobs-Not Seasonally Adjusted stands at 18,300 down 600 from December 2016 and down 700 from January 2016.
